Je vous recommande deux articles récents parus dans la presse anglophone à propos du système très français des Grandes Ecoles et leurs tentatives d'ouverture, avec un intéret tout particulier porté à Sciences Po. Les commentaires sont très intéressants et viennent contrebalancer ce qu'on peut considérer comme un belle réussite de Sciences Po en termes de communication. Un campus-franco américain ouvre à la rentrée à Reims et on peut voir dans ces deux articles le résultat d'une opération de séduction à destination du public anglo-saxon.

Because entrance to the best grandes écoles effectively guarantees top jobs for life, the government is prodding the schools to set a goal of increasing the percentage of scholarship students to 30 percent — more than three times the current ratio at the most selective schools. But the effort is being met with concerns from the grandes écoles, who fear it could dilute standards, and is stirring anger among the French at large, who fear it runs counter to a French ideal of a meritocracy blind to race, religion and ethnicity.

Descoings responds that dismissive comments about "Americanisation" are made "out of wilful French ignorance". He points out the obvious - that the US academy can mean either Harvard or a community college - but also notes that Sciences Po is, above all, a European university with a long history of welcoming students from all over the Continent. Reims, he says, was the logical next step - with 240 students from the US and Canada coming to Sciences Po each year, and partnerships with North American institutions already in place, there was every reason to go ahead with a transatlantic campus.
